Friendship and Financing in Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs is a tight-knit community where residents are quick to make friends and dedicated to helping their neighbors. This is all too true with the story behind Laffoon Legal Services’ new office on Grand Avenue.

In 2013, straight out of law school, Lucy Laffoon moved to Glenwood Springs to pursue her dream and open a law practice specializing in Immigration Law as a solo practitioner. January 1, 2014 she officially opened the doors to her office. Upon her move, Lucy also joined the Roaring Fork Women’s Triathlon Team in 2014 and met Haddie Lopez , a real estate broker with The Property Shop, after Haddie joined the team in 2016. As their friendship grew, Lucy mentioned to Haddie that she was renting both an office for her business and personal housing, but would love to put down roots and invest in the community where she started her law practice by purchasing a home/property in Glenwood Springs.

In January of 2017 Haddie started searching for the perfect home for her friend. Yet, much to her surprise she found something even better- a quaint Victorian house on Grand Avenue built for a business downstairs and housing upstairs! Lucy knew it was home the second she saw it, the only thing left to do was figure out how to make it hers.

Haddie had an idea. She called her friend, Nicole Christianson from Colorado Lending Source, an organization that partners with community banks to finance commercial real estate purchases. Although it was an untraditional situation, Nicole believed it could work with the right bank partner, so she reached out to their mutual friend Dean Kinkel at ANB Bank. As the story in a small community goes, Dean had been Lucy’s Roaring Fork Young Professional’s softball team coach in the summer of 2015. Together Nicole, Dean and Haddie were determined to help Lucy, and nearly five months later Lucy was handed keys to her new office and home.

On Thursday, April 5, Laffoon Legal Services is hosting an open house at its new office, 1018 Grand Avenue between 4:30pm and 7:30pm. There will be light food, beverages, and dessert served made from local businesses in town. We hope you can join us to celebrate the business, Glenwood Springs, and friendship!
